UPDATE: Resident Evil 7's chart-topping start doesn't seem to have gone down well with investors.
Resident Evil 7 share prices have dropped following the news that the game shipped 2.5 million units in the first week.
Resident Evil 6 is believed to have shipped 4.5 million units in week one, while Resident Evil 5 shipped 4 million.
Shipped units don't necessarily reflect sales, as Resident Evil 5 outperformed its successor in the UK.
ORIGINAL: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has soared to the top of the UK sales chart, although it's not all good news for Capcom.
Resident Evil 7 dethrones GTA 5 from the top of the UK all-format games chart, racking up nearly three quarters of its sales on PS4.
But it might not be all it's cracked up to be, because as UKIE points out, it's only the third best opening week for the Resident Evil series, behind Resident Evil 5 in number one.
"Resident Evil 5 launched on 360/PS3 in week 11, 2009 and the highpoint was reached because this was also the first time the franchise launched on a Microsoft platform," the latest UKIE press release explains.
What the latest press release doesn't mention, however, is that it's also behind Resident Evil 6 in terms of week one sales, and that's despite the largely negative reviews that accompanied the 2012 release.
It's worth pointing out that video game sales are typically much lower in January, and the UK charts only factor in physical box sales, not downloads.
Let's just hope Capcom doesn't use the week one sales to justify a return to the action-oriented style of Resident Evil 6.

Resident Evil has gone on to become Capcom's most successful gaming brand since the original launched all the way back in 1996.
It sits just outside of the top 30 gaming brands in the UK, generating similar income to the Crash Bandicoot series and Just Dance.

Resident Evil 7 is out now on PS4, Xbox One and PC, although it won't be coming to Nintendo Switch. Capcom is also unsure about its plans for Xbox Scorpio.
The game is set after the events of Resident Evil 6, and takes place in a foreboding, derelict plantation mansion in rural America.
It also ditches the third-person viewpoint used in previous games, opting instead for a brand new first-person style.
In fact, Capcom has even ported the game over to PlayStation VR, which means PS4 owners can play the entire game in virtual reality.
Fans can download the Resident Evil 7 Beginning Hour demo for a look at the new first-person gameplay style, while the Kitchen demo showcases the VR potential.
